Ex-PBB Housemate Grateful for the Opportunity to Share Financial Knowledge at BDO Fiesta

Former PBB housemate Bryan “Brx” Ruiz inspires Negrenses at the BDO mini-fiesta in Sipalay City. Learn how his Kabayan Savings account helped him secure his future!

Former Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) housemate Bryan “Brx” Ruiz expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to share his financial knowledge with fellow Negrenses during the recent BDO mini-fiesta held at the Sipalay City Gymnasium.

Tapped to co-host the event, the 32-year-old Ruiz—dubbed “Seamanluluto ng Bacolod” during his PBB: Gen11 days—shared how his experience as a seafarer helped him appreciate the importance of having a savings account.

He emphasized the benefits of banking with a trusted financial institution like BDO Unibank, which offers multiple convenient channels for accessing accounts.

“I’ve been a seafarer for almost 13 years and am a chief cook on a general cargo vessel for an international shipping company. I’ll be back onboard next year,” Ruiz shared.

“I’ve also been a Kabayan Savings client for four years. As a seafarer, the account allows me easy access to my funds, especially through the BDO online banking app. I can withdraw anytime from anywhere in the world, and it helps me save for the future.”

During his break from seafaring, Ruiz seized the chance to audition as a housemate for PBB, a popular reality TV show broadcast on ABS-CBN.

“When I disembarked last April 20, I auditioned in Novaliches on April 27. Luckily, I got picked out of 37,000 others who auditioned. Unfortunately, I got evicted on Day 29 as the Big Night neared,” Ruiz shared, with a tinge of sadness but still grateful for the unique opportunity.

BDO Security Features

Ruiz emphasized that BDO’s security features made him trust the bank with his hard-earned money, giving him peace of mind as a Kabayan Savings account holder.

“I feel my money is safe with BDO because of their security features like PIN and OTP (one-time passwords),” he said. “I also have no problem sending remittances to my beneficiaries. It’s fast.”

For those aspiring to follow in his footsteps—whether as a seafarer or someone trying their luck in show business—Ruiz advised them to pursue their passion.

“If it’s your passion, go for it and do whatever it takes. I was the oldest housemate there at 32. If you have dreams—joining PBB has been my dream ever since high school—you can achieve them no matter what. With dedication and perseverance, you’ll get there,” he said.

Warm Welcome from Negrenses

BDO Network Bank (BDONB) First Vice President and Marketing Head Emmanuel Lee Esguerra shared how warmly the people of Sipalay City received the BDO mini-fiesta during its opening salvo.

“The people realize that it’s important to have a partner bank they can go to and talk to. They’re always welcome to visit the branch, especially when seeking financial advice. Whether they need help with financial products or business requirements, we’re just here for them. That’s what they like—to have someone to talk to,” he said.

“The opening salvo has been great, and we expect the reception from Negrenses to keep improving as we continue the fiesta.”

After Sipalay City, other BDO mini-fiestas were held in San Enrique and Murcia Covered Court. Aside from games and prizes, members of the communities enjoyed entertainment numbers, financial literacy tips, and booths that depicted every step of a BDO customer’s financial journey.

BDO provides Negrenses with a reliable banking partner, always ready to support them every step of the way.
