While roaming around Siam Square in Bangkok, Thailand, we are looking for something refreshing to cool us down. We stumbled upon a cafe that serves bingsu and thought, why not try it for a change?

If you love sweets as much as I do, this place is a must-visit. We tried their two amazing bingsu flavors – the Salted Egg Yolk Bua-Loi Bingsu and the Melon Bingsu.

What is Bingsu?

Before we dive into the specifics, let’s talk a bit about bingsu. Bingsu is a Korean shaved ice dessert that’s perfect for cooling down on a hot day.

It’s not just any shaved ice; it’s super fine and fluffy, almost like snow. This icy treat is usually topped with sweet toppings like fruits, condensed milk, and various syrups.

Salted Egg Yolk Bua-Loi Bingsu

When I first saw the Salted Egg Yolk Bua-Loi Bingsu on the menu, I was curious. Salted egg yolk in a dessert? It sounded unique, so I had to try it.

What’s in it?

  • Salted Egg Yolk Sauce: This creamy and slightly savory sauce is the star of this bingsu. It has a rich, custard-like texture and adds an unexpected twist to the sweet dessert.
  • Bua-Loi: These are small, chewy rice flour balls often found in Thai desserts. They add a nice texture contrast to the smooth ice.
  • Shaved Ice: The base is the classic fluffy shaved ice, which perfectly balances the rich flavors.
  • Condensed Milk: Drizzled over the top, it adds a touch of sweetness to the overall dish.

Taste Experience

The first bite was a pleasant surprise. The salted egg yolk sauce wasn’t overwhelmingly salty; instead, it blended well with the sweet condensed milk and the delicate shaved ice. The bua-loi balls were fun to eat, giving each spoonful an interesting chewiness. If you’re looking for something different and exciting, this bingsu flavor is definitely worth a try.

If you’re a fan of fresh fruits, this one is for you.

What’s in it?

  • Fresh Melon: Generous chunks of sweet melon are the highlight of this bingsu. They’re juicy and refreshing.
  • Melon Syrup: This adds an extra burst of melon flavor, making the dessert even more fragrant.
  • Shaved Ice: The fluffy ice, as always, serves as the perfect base.
  • Vanilla Ice Cream: A scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream on top adds richness and makes it even more indulgent.

Taste Experience

The Melon Bingsu was like a cool breeze on a hot day. The fresh melon pieces were incredibly refreshing, and the melon syrup enhanced their natural sweetness.

The vanilla ice cream added a creamy element that made each bite more satisfying. It’s a simple yet delicious choice, perfect for fruit lovers.
